sigma slr lense Archives

I was looking to buy some lenses for my camera and I wanted to know which brand lens I should buy. I searched for Canon, Sigma, and Quantaray. I noticed Canon lenses are a lot more expensive. Which ever one you choose, what is wrong with the other ones. i.e. if you pick Canon, then tell me what is wrong with Sigma and Quantaray.
Are Nikkor lenses better than Canon and are they only for Nikon?

I have a Nikon D40x. Is there a big difference between Sigma lenses "for Nikon" and a Nikkor lens? I am looking at the AF-S Zoom-Nikkor ED 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6G IF DX VR or the Sigma Zoom Super Wide Angle 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 DC OS (Optical Stabilizer) Lens for Nikon Digital SLR. There is a big difference in price - what about quality??

We have a Canon EOS Rebel G film camera with a couple of Sigma lenses (normal and telephoto). We are looking at a digital SLR. I have seen good reviews for the Canon Digital Rebel xti and the Nikon D80. Will my old lenses work for these digital SLR's or will I have to buy new ones? Any recommendations?

I'm about to make the leap from film to a digital SLR. I've decided on the Canon 30D.

I have a couple Sigma lenses (Canon mount) I would like to make the transfer. Can anyone tell me if the following 2 lenses are fully compatable with the 30D?

28-70mm f/2.8 Asperical EX - purchased 1999
105mm 2.8 Macro EX - purchased around 2000

Any thoughts?

my friend has a couple sigma lenses form a camera she has. It's new but she doesn't use them and said I could have them They are sigma lenses for a film SLR camera. They are the sigma 70-300 and the sigma 28-90 lenses. DO you think they are compatable with my Nikon D-80 DSLR

Hello again and thanks for the info on my previous question of Nikon D3000 VS Canon XSi. I've decided to get the Nikon D3000 with 18-55 mm lens so I can learn the ropes for a couple of years. Now my question is for a good Telephoto Zoom lens with some macro capability just in case. I found a Sigma lens on B&H: the Sigma 70-300 mm. f/4-5.6 DG Macro Autofocus AF-D Lens. I've read the reviews and so far it seems like a very good lens- I saw similar things on Amazon where people praised it. I know and understand the things I see repeated so many times it pisses me off by now:

A) You get what you pay for. (Not necessarily true IMO but that's another story, not in the mood for ranting about it)
B) First party is always superior.
C) Do not buy third party unless you're in absolute necessity. ( -_- )

However, I've made up my mind. My belief from experience with a Vivitar V3800N film SLR (yes I owned a Vivitar) is that any lens will do as long as you understand it and practice with it and understand its intricacies so you can work with them to the best of your ability. That is my stand. But I digress- returning to subject: if you have used them, are you happy with the results? I've seen pictures taken with this lens and they seem very good but just in case.

And please, PLEASE, don't answer things like OH MAI GADZ BUY FIRST PARTY LENSES BECAUSE INSERT BRAND HERE SUCKS because that is not the question. I'm asking if a Sigma lens has worked for people. Comparing it to Nikon or Canon lenses is another subject entirely- and not the thing I'm looking for. Thank you! :)

I justpurchased a Sigma 24-70mm F2.8 EX DG Macro for my Nikon D90. Everything seems to work fine excpet when I try to focus manually (it is both an AF and manual focus lens). I switched my camera to Manual mode and still the focus ring on the lens is non responsive. I am new to slrs and this is my first lens so am I not doing something right or is the lens defective?
Thanks for any help!

I have a fantastic Sigma 100-300mm zoom lens. I used it on my old (non-digital) Pentax SLR. I am looking to buy a new dSLR, and I'd like to get the Canon Rebel XS; however, if my Sigma lens won't work on it, I won't get it. Does Sigma work on all models?

I have a sony A2oo digital camera and am looking to buy a new lens, i am looking at the SIGMA 100-300mm ZOOM SLR LENS 1:4.5-6.7..... does anyone know if this will fit, cheers

Hi,
I am thinking about buying a D-SLR. I own a Nikon F55 and a canon power shot A400. The Digital SLR can’t be to expensive I am thinking maximum 400 £.. Do anyone have any suggestion for a camera I can buy? And is it possible to use film SLR lens on a D-SLR? (My lens is a
Sigma zoom 28-80mm 1:3.5-5.6 2 Macro Ø55)

Hi all, I have a number of old 35mm SLR autofocus bodies - 3xi, 5xi, 7000 with a number of lenses: 70-200 f2.8 sigma zoom, 400mm f5.6 sigma telephoto lens, and I am planning to buy a Minolta 5D SLR. I really would like to use these lenses on a 5D SLR body, I know it is possible, BUT I would like some feedback on people who have, or have used the new Minolta 5D. Is the autofocus fast enough?? I take a lot of sport photos: rugby, hockey etc, as well as low light concert photograpy. Can the camera handle the pace??? I would appreciate any feedback. Many thanks!!!

I'd like to upgrade to DSLR, but after buying a body (D80) I will only have about 0 to spend on a lens. I've read lots of reviews on the cheaper models and they all seem to have lots of negatives, be it slowness, distortion, fringing, CA or softness. So I'm wondering if the cheap SLR lenses are just crap compared to good SLR lenses or if they are crap compared to point and shoot lenses as well.

Also, what would be the cheapest Nikon (Nikkor, Tarmon, Sigma...) lens is that will outperform the best point and shoot lenses like Sony's Carl Zeiss and Panasonic's Leica.

On my Minolta x-700 SLR I have a Sigma lens that I am not sure the name of. I don't know how lenses are labeled or named. It says: mini-zoom, 1:3.5, f=39 mm - 80 mm, multi-coated. Does anyone know what kind of lens this is and where I could learn how to use it more accurately?

In case there is a good place that I may not be familiar with, please inform me.

I do not use ebay to sell, too many fees etc. I already have a listing on cragist list. I know about www.keh.com as well, but the prices they give you are ridiculously low.

Are there any forums that have a classifieds section perhaps? Or any other place like that where it is free to post what you have up for sale?

I am selling a nikon mount sigma 105mm macro lens.

I have a Sigma auto-focus camera lens that had been used on a Minolta Maxxum 5000 SLR camera. The camera is now gone, but the lens remains. It is a 70mm - 210mm zoom lens with an F4 - F5.6 aperture. I don't want to go back to film, but that lens worked great. Are there any digital camera that it will fit?

I would like to know if I can use these camera lens in a digital SLR camera body?
Thanks.

I recently had the Canon Rebel XS (film camera- and for those of you who will say "Are you talking about the digital?" NO I AM NOT) but i need to replace it as it will soon have some shutter problems due to something on the inside. I LOOOOOOOOOOOOVE my 75-300mm SIgma lens, so will it be able to mount onto a Canon Ae2 film SLR? I'm not sure what type of lens mount it has. Also, is going from the REbel XS to the AE2 considered upgrading?

thanks in advance, 10 pts to best answer!!!

digital SLR camera's lenses

I currently have the Nikon N80 film SLR camera and was wondering if I could use a Sigma dSLR macro lens on it. This is the lens I'm looking at:
http://www.amazon.com/Sigma-50mm-Macro-Nikon-Cameras/dp/B0002P19Q2/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1241744118&sr=8-4

I know that this lens can be used with Nikon dSLRs, but I don't know if most dSLR lenses can be used on a SLR.

Thank you so much!

I'm totally new to the whole SLR 35mm camera thing. I just started a photography class. I also just purchased a Minolta Maxxum 5000i camera that comes with a "Sigma Lens". Here's a link to the auction that I won:

1, did I get a good deal? 2, If I were to buy other lenses for this camera, what kind of lens would I need to get? What things would I need to know?

Thanks!

I am looking to buy either the Nikon D80 or Nikon D40 and used both my Sigma lenses with my film Nikon N80 and like both lenses but now I want to upgrade to a digital SLR and want to see if I can use these lenses before purchasing either the D80 or D40 to try to save money. Does anyone know if my Sigma lenses will work with the D80 or D40...thanks!!!!

I have a D50 and would like to start macro photography. Can you recommend a good macro lens or should I go with close up adapters first to see if I like it?
