Hi all, I have a number of old 35mm SLR autofocus bodies - 3xi, 5xi, 7000 with a number of lenses: 70-200 f2.8 sigma zoom, 400mm f5.6 sigma telephoto lens, and I am planning to buy a Minolta 5D SLR. I really would like to use these lenses on a 5D SLR body, I know it is possible, BUT I would like some feedback on people who have, or have used the new Minolta 5D. Is the autofocus fast enough?? I take a lot of sport photos: rugby, hockey etc, as well as low light concert photograpy. Can the camera handle the pace??? I would appreciate any feedback. Many thanks!!!

You know of course that the Konica-Minolta 5D has been discontinued? K-M sold off their camera division to Sony. The replacement for the 5D is the Sony Alpha 100.

I haven’t used a 5D (nor the Alpha 100), but I’ve used the Minolta 7 and autofocus with older lenses (for my 7000) was significantly faster than on the 7000, though not as fast as some of the newer
lenses.
I’m a Minolta fan, but Canon USM and Nikon AF-S lenses would definitely have an advantage if you’re shooting sports. However, since you already seem to have a large investment in long glass, and you’ve been happy shooting sports with a 7000 or 3xi so far, then I doubt you’ll have AF speed problems with the 5D. Hats off to anyone shooting sports with a 7000!
You might also want to check compatibility with your Sigma lenses, as some of the older Sigma lenses had compatibility issues with the newer Minolta cameras (like the 7).
