Rexatar lenses - are they compatible w/Nikon SLR cameras? October 16, 2009 | 02:13 pm

Rexatar Zoom Lens 85-205mm

Does anyone know if this is compatible w/a Digital SLR Nikon d40 camera?
also, this one:
Asanuma Japan 400mm 5.6 Telephoto Lens

Are either of them compatible w/Nikon D40 or above SLR cameras?
Kiron Telephoto/Macro Lens?

There's a bunch of these lenses, that I've never even heard of...sorry. :(

Unless the lens has its own motor, you’ll have no autofocus. And unless it’s a CPU lens, you’ll be unable to meter. Don’t put a crap lens on the D40. It’s too good of a camera for that. Stick to Nikon’s "G" series lenses.

No, it is not compatible. Perhaps in a nikon mount, but it is a manual focus lens, which will probably not meter with the D40.

Neither lens you list is worth buying. While I understand the economics of buying a lens, its better to save your money until you can buy Genuine Nikon lenses. There is a reason that an off-brand lens might cost $199.00 while a comparable Nikon lens might cost $999.00 and that is build quality and optical quality.

Remember: "Quality doesn’t cost, it pays."

It’s strongly recommended that you stick to Nikon’s, Nikkor lenses. If you have to have a cheaper alternative to Nikon, stick to the major aftermarket makers. Those are Sigma, Tamron, Tokina and to a lesser extent, Zeiss. Nikon is still recommend far and above all of them.

To be honest, I have never heard of or seen a Rexatar lens. However, I did a search and found a few results. No website for the manufacturer. And the limited commentary included terms like "dog" and "turd." Generally, that’s not a good sign. I did see one person mentioning the purchase of a Rexatar lens for a Nikon mount so it appears they make a compatible version. Proceed at your own risk.

If it is a Nikon mount then it will fit. If it is not then no it will not. As the others have said they are crappy lenses. I wouldn’t bother. They would also be manual focus and may not meter.
