| Best low-cost digital SLR camera that accepts 35 mm lenses/filters? |
March 5, 2010 | 06:29 pm |
I am a very amateur "picture taker". I can't use the word "photographer" because that would be well above my abilities. I currently own a very old digital camera. It is slow, no zoom, no focus and doesn't take any other lenses. A photographer friend suggested one of the best entry level cameras for what I want is a Nikon D40. It is a camera under 0 with a good lens and accepts most 35 mm lenses and filters. It also has a good balance of automatic and manual settings.
My problem is I'm just not ready to spend 0 at this time.
I have seen other cameras, such as the Canon 6 MP that is 0 less, but don't have alot of specs on it.
Is it worth 0 for the Nikon, or can I get a better value and features with another digital camera?

| What film camera for my black and white photography class? |
February 17, 2010 | 06:31 pm |
I currently own a Nikon D40, but wanted to learn more about photography, so I enrolled in a black and white photography class at my school. We need a film camera, but since I already have a nice digital setup with a couple lenses, I was wondering what a good film camera for the class would be, that would be under a couple hundred dollars used.
Both Lenses I have are DX lenses, if that helps in what film camera I should get.

Does anybody have this camera?
If so,
can you tell if you like it, don't like it, what's good, what's not good, etc?
Thanks!
Also, I do portraiture photography.
And depth-of-field is very important to me.

| Best NIKON SLR Lens For Backpacking Travel (35mm 1.8 vs 18-55mm ect)? |
November 16, 2009 | 07:01 pm |
Hey Guys, I have a Nikon D40 which I absolutely love to death.
I currently have an 18-55mm stock lens.
I am backpacking through Italy for a month or so and any debating on what would be the best SINGLE lens to bring as space is limited.
I will be shooting anything and everything like a mad man.
I am interested in the new Nikon 35mm 1.8 prime lens for its quick speed and small size.
I don't want to spend more than 250, so I know I don't have many options.
Should I get the 35mm or stick with the 18-55mm?

November 5, 2009 | 04:09 pm |
I'm looking to invest in a good solid entry level DSLR. I'm not looking to go pro in photography but i would like a camera that I can have fun with and take some good pictures (Sports, landscape, etc) I have looked a lot at the Canon Digital Rebel XTi and the Nikon D40 and they look like solid affordable cameras. But i'm open to any other suggestions on cameras.
On top of this what kind of lenses would I need (this is one field where I have not done too much research and have no idea which to get).
I appreciate any help and thank you!

| Just got a Nikon D40 - are these lenses any good? |
September 26, 2009 | 06:38 pm |
I just bought a Nikon D40 which I'm very happy with it. I wan't to buy a wide angle and a telephoto lense and see some great deals on lenses on Ebay. I'm a little hesitant to buy them off of Ebay because I'm afraid they will be junk quality.
Here are some examples of what's out there:

I am by no means an expert in photography and would appreciate your input as to what to look for in a lens and what makes a good lens vs. a crap lens.
thanks in advance!

I have a Nikon D40 digital camera and bought a wide angle lens. I don't know a lot about photography, I had to use this kind of camera for a job. My photos are supposed to be set for the widest angle for the lens (24mm). Is there a way to set this up using my camera menu? Help! Thanks.

September 15, 2009 | 06:30 pm |
I have a Nikon D40. I accidentally changed the lenses on my camera when it was on - I thought it was turned off. Have I damaged my camera? It seems to work just fine - but the instructions say to make sure the camera is turned off.

| I am buying my first SLR camera. Which lenses to I need to buy? |
July 9, 2009 | 09:38 pm |
I am buying my first SLR - probably getting the Nikon D40.
I am doing a photography course this summer. But do I need to buy any lenses?
It comes with a "18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G kit lens which is a great walk-about lens. It gives you a nice 3x zoom".
Is that sufficient for now? I am going to be using it for general photography - not professional. I like taking photos basically!
I just don't know anything about lenses. Please give me some useful knowledge?

| Digital SLR camera & lenses: Who has the best lense for standard and telephoto? Also, best camera? |
July 8, 2009 | 07:12 pm |
I looked at consumer reports - that rated the Nikon D40, D80 pretty highly. I like the 10 megapixels, but some people have been telling me its all about the lenses. Therefore, What lense to people recommend?
there are standard lenses that come with the nikon d40/80 but I looked at nikon.com and they have tons more to choose from. I'm not sure what I should do.
another more experienced photographer I know bought the sony alpha, and said he is going to use his old minolta lenses.
My price range for the total package body + lense is probably 1200-1500.
Any thoughts?

| Can someone explain the different kind of camera lenses available for D-SLR cameras? |
July 3, 2009 | 11:54 pm |
I am looking to purchase a Nikon D40 and there are several kits available that comes with extra lenses. I am only just beginning to get into photography and do not understand what each lens does. The camera comes standard with a 18-55 mm lens. But there are kits with 55-200 mm lenses or telephoto lenses or wide angle lenses...
Could someone explain to me what each Lens is used for so I can get a better sense of which lens is the best for me?
