Bower 500mm review
Bower 500mm is one of the three reflex (mirror lenses) lenses of Nikon, which was very popular in the past. This lens is similar to lenses of a telescope because of the mirrors structure. Their main advantage it their light weight and short length and this is because the "folded" structure of the mirrors. With this lens you can not change the aperture adjuster which is fixed on 8. The lens is designed for a manual focusing.
It has a much different rendering of out of focus areas than a normal lens. Also, there is no colors distortion. The colors come out as in reality.
There is no automatically light measure but only manual.
This reflective lens there is also no spatial distortion. However, since there is a small mirror on the optical axle in the front part of the lens, the reflective lens creates bokeh similar to round bagels.
Because of the relatively small aperture adjuster it is more sensitive to "licking" of light from the eyepiece and for creating under-exposure which entails bleaching and flooding of noise (snow). It is important to make sure to make the light measuring when the eyepiece is covered whether by hand or by eye.
When holding this light lens it is impossible to believe that it has focus length of 500mm. the weight and length can be very misleading. In spite of her light weight, using it entails all the precautions of a long lens: a massive tripod and a strong tripod head.

i have a pic of a canon slr with a zoom attached to it. i dont know anything about the zoom lense.
the only piece of information i have is that slr is a canon T-50 and the Filter Size of that Zoom is
62 mm. Can some one please advise giving me a list of possible Zoom Lenses out of which one could be the one which is attached to this T-50 Pic. I could search and find that Sigma DG 28-300 is one of them, but the pic of Sigma DG 28-300 does not look like the one which is attached to the T-50. Thanks for your help and expertise! sincerely - Manav M
I am a very amateur "picture taker". I can't use the word "photographer" because that would be well above my abilities. I currently own a very old digital camera. It is slow, no zoom, no focus and doesn't take any other lenses. A photographer friend suggested one of the best entry level cameras for what I want is a Nikon D40. It is a camera under 0 with a good lens and accepts most 35 mm lenses and filters. It also has a good balance of automatic and manual settings.
My problem is I'm just not ready to spend 0 at this time.
I have seen other cameras, such as the Canon 6 MP that is 0 less, but don't have alot of specs on it.
Is it worth 0 for the Nikon, or can I get a better value and features with another digital camera?
I have a Nikon D40x. Is there a big difference between Sigma lenses "for Nikon" and a Nikkor lens? I am looking at the AF-S Zoom-Nikkor ED 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6G IF DX VR or the Sigma Zoom Super Wide Angle 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 DC OS (Optical Stabilizer) Lens for Nikon Digital SLR. There is a big difference in price - what about quality??
Do most digital cameras have optical lenses or digital zoom lenses?
I'm looking to get a lenses for my digital SLR nikon. I was wondering if someone could tell me if I am standing in the same position and I want to zoom in on something (right now I have a 35-135mm zoom) would it be better to go with a smaller number like 15-55mm or go 7-300mm? Which one is going to give me more of closer shot when standing in the same position?
room?
A- zoom
B- wide-angle
C- telephoto
D-concave
Hello,
I am thinking of getting my first SLR - Nikon D80
My budjet is up to 1100
I would want to get just a body for D80 and a lens seprately
I would not want to buy standard lens 18-55 but one that has better zoom that fits my budjet
Can you recommend any lenses that fit my budjet?
Thanks.
I am looking for a fairly simple lens for my Digital Rebel XTi with a decent zoom, manual/autofocus, and f/stop. What would give be the best lens of this type with a reasonable price tag?
I got all the smudges out except one... despite all my best efforts... it just wont come out... it's in focus when have max zoom--if that helps anyone determine an answer. So what can I do to get it out... any tips/tricks? thanks
I have a Nikon D80 and I wanted to know if a lens like this:
Canon Zoom Telephoto EF 70-200mm f/4.0L USM Autofocus Lens
would work on my D80?
If it wouldn't work directly is there some lens convertor kit I could use?
Hello again and thanks for the info on my previous question of Nikon D3000 VS Canon XSi. I've decided to get the Nikon D3000 with 18-55 mm lens so I can learn the ropes for a couple of years. Now my question is for a good Telephoto Zoom lens with some macro capability just in case. I found a Sigma lens on B&H: the Sigma 70-300 mm. f/4-5.6 DG Macro Autofocus AF-D Lens. I've read the reviews and so far it seems like a very good lens- I saw similar things on Amazon where people praised it. I know and understand the things I see repeated so many times it pisses me off by now:
A) You get what you pay for. (Not necessarily true IMO but that's another story, not in the mood for ranting about it)
B) First party is always superior.
C) Do not buy third party unless you're in absolute necessity. ( -_- )
However, I've made up my mind. My belief from experience with a Vivitar V3800N film SLR (yes I owned a Vivitar) is that any lens will do as long as you understand it and practice with it and understand its intricacies so you can work with them to the best of your ability. That is my stand. But I digress- returning to subject: if you have used them, are you happy with the results? I've seen pictures taken with this lens and they seem very good but just in case.
And please, PLEASE, don't answer things like OH MAI GADZ BUY FIRST PARTY LENSES BECAUSE INSERT BRAND HERE SUCKS because that is not the question. I'm asking if a Sigma lens has worked for people. Comparing it to Nikon or Canon lenses is another subject entirely- and not the thing I'm looking for. Thank you!
the lens are 105 macro 2.8 d, 60marco 2.8, 300 f4.0 ed, and a 24-50 f3.3-4.5 zoom
I'd like to buy a zoom lens. If it says that the lens will fit any Minolta camera, am I good to go? Or do I need to buy a ring or mount or something to attatch it? If so, where can I find those?
Thank you to all the people answering these questions for me. Photography has become a new passion to me and I'm still pretty clueless about a lot of things...
Tamron Zoom Telephoto AF 75-300mm f/4.0-5.6 LD Macro Autofocus Lens , should i buy a different type lens to do a wedding or will the lens i have work just fine. Thanks for any advice.
I would like to stay within the Standard Nikon zoom choices. Also which standard non - zoom AF lenses are OK to be used on the D80.
I have a fantastic Sigma 100-300mm zoom lens. I used it on my old (non-digital) Pentax SLR. I am looking to buy a new dSLR, and I'd like to get the Canon Rebel XS; however, if my Sigma lens won't work on it, I won't get it. Does Sigma work on all models?
a 28-80mm f/3.3-5.6G AF Zoom-Nikkor lens came with my Nikon 35mm slr camera that I bought for my photography class. my first class was today and for our first assignment he said that he'll only accept a 35-70 mm lens. so do I need to buy a new lens or will mine work. I'm really dumb on all this, but I'm learning! Thanks so much!
I have a Minolta Maxxum autofocus film camera. I have a Maxxum AF Zoom 28-85mm lens. Will this fit on a digital SLR camera? Is it worth it to try and find a camera to fit it or just buy a new lens?
I have a nikon N60 SLR with a 300 mm zoom, and am considering a digital now that they have the 12x optics and image stabilization. will the 12x bring me as close as the 300mm?
I have a sony A2oo digital camera and am looking to buy a new lens, i am looking at the SIGMA 100-300mm ZOOM SLR LENS 1:4.5-6.7..... does anyone know if this will fit, cheers
Which is the best value among these 4 SRL camera and lens combinations. I'm looking for a camera a lens combination which is clean, crisp and sharp. I will be using a tripod. I know that the lens are the most important thing but I'm torn between these 4 combinations and don't know which one to buy. My hunch is Nikon is best but I've heard good things and some gray things about all of them. Can you help me pick the right camera? I shoot people, animals and landscapes. I'm not a beginner but I've never owned a SRL.
These are the cameras I'm torn between for my budget.
1. Sony Alpha DSLRA300K 10.2MP Digital SLR Camera with Super SteadyShot Image Stabilization with DT 18-70mm f/3.5-5.6 Zoom Lens
2. Nikon D60 10.2MP Digital SLR Camera with 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G AF-S DX VR Nikkor Zoom Lens
3.Olympus Evolt E510 10MP Digital SLR Camera with CCD Shift Image Stabilization and 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 and 40-150mm f/4.0-5.6 Zuiko Lenses
4. Pentax K200D 10.2MP Digital SLR Camera with Shake Reduction 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 Lens
I am looking for a less expensive camera and a seperate lens that can zoom up close from far away and i know macros can do that. But i am so confused by all the camera lingo beacause all i can find is micro. Or is there a telephoto camera with macro capabilites that would be good? I was looking at either nikkon or canon.
I'm not too picky but when cameras dont focus it drives me crazy. Anyone have any ideas? price range not more then 1100ish for both camera nad lens
I'm looking for a general purpose lens. I don't need any extreme macro or zoom. I mostly photograph people, some landscapes, nature, etc. So far, I'm drawn to the Canon EF 28-135mm. What are your thoughts? Are there other lenses that would fit my needs more? I'm wanting to upgrade because I heard that I could get significantly better quality and clarity by using pretty much anything besides the kit lens. I'm on a budget, so as it is, the Canon EF-28-135 is at the top of my price range.
Hi,
I am thinking about buying a D-SLR. I own a Nikon F55 and a canon power shot A400. The Digital SLR can’t be to expensive I am thinking maximum 400 £.. Do anyone have any suggestion for a camera I can buy? And is it possible to use film SLR lens on a D-SLR? (My lens is a
Sigma zoom 28-80mm 1:3.5-5.6 2 Macro Ø55)
