Unfortunately, the other answers for 62mm and 77mm are wrong.

The Nikkor 28-80mm f/3.3-5.6G Autofocus Lens has a 58mm filter size! That’s what the 58 after the filter symbol (O with a line through it) means. The 52mm filter you bought should appear to be just slightly too small.

Go to Nikon USA: http://www.nikonusa.com/template.php?cat=1&grp=5&productNr=1927 and click on the "Tech Specs" tab or download specs and you’ll see that Nikon itself says it’s 58mm.

aaron 11136 or wahtever is 100% correct. It should be a 77mm though. Congrats on the new Nikon. You’ll love it.

I thought I answered this before… well, the Nikkor AF 28-80mm f/3.5-5.6 lens takes a 62mm filter size.

I owned one of these lenses, the "D" version and gave it away and bought the Nikkor AF 28-105mm f/3.5-5.6D which is a more versatile and useful lens.

Generally u will find a Ф (insert number here) mm stamped on the lense, this indicates the filter size . If this is not case i would recomment going to the owners manual on the lense or look up your lense in http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=productlist.jsp&A=getpage&Q=RootPage.jsp then go to acessories for that lense i hope this helps .
